Embattled former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele’s arraignment at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court in Abuja, over an alleged N6.9 billion alleged procurement fraud has been delayed due to the absence of the first and second defendants who had reportedly been indisposed.
Emefiele had been present in court today, Thursday, August 17.
This news is coming after an application for adjournment was granted. 5he Presiding Judge, Justice Hamza Muazu postponed the matter to August 23, 2023.
Emefiele will be indicted together with a female CBN employee, Sa’adatu Yaro and her company, April1616 Investment Limited on 20 charges of conspiracy, procurement fraud, and honouring corrupt advantages on his associates.
The suspended apex bank chief, who has been detained since he was suspended from office on June 9, 2023, is being accused of bestowing corrupt advantages on Yaro, a director in April 1616 Investment Ltd.
This crime is contrary to the country’s Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.
