The National Industrial Court of Nigeria has deferred to May 2, the hearing on the case between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU over the owed eight months’ salaries of the lecturers’ withheld by the federal government.
Dr. Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, had dragged the union to court after the failure of the government and ASUU to reconcile during the strike action which happened in 2022.
Meanwhile, the court had praised Ngige for taking legal action against ASUU after efforts at reconciliation had proved abortive.
The minister of Education had requested an interlocutory injunction barring ASUU from continuing the strike, until the determination of the substantive suit with number: NICN/ABJ/270/22-FGN, Min. of Edu. vs ASUU.
