Bandits had in the early hours of Tuesday, April 7, stormed Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, and abducted the manager of TAJ Bank, Gusau, Mansur Kaura, at his home.
An anonymous source close to the manager had informed Channels Television that the bandits stormed the house at Gidan Dari Bypass around 12am on Tuesday and carried him to an unknown location.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command Yazid Abubakar had informed newsmen at Channels Television that the team of police tactical operatives from the state command was currently on the trail of the kidnappers with the plan of rescuing him safe and unhurt.
More details to come later…
What They’re Saying:
The anonymous source had said; “The bandits entered the area around 12am and started shooting sporadically, they gained access to his house and whisked him to an unknown destination.”
Meanwhile, in corroboration with what the anonymous informant had said, Abubakar remarked that the incident had indeed happened.
“He was kidnapped at his residence in the early hours of today, but our team is hot on the trail of the kidnappers and I assure you that he will be rescued safely.”
Why It Matters
The kidnap of a person of status such as a bank manager of a well-known bank highlights the insecurity plaguing Nigeria as a whole. If a considerably rich person like a bank manager could be easily abducted from his home, –perhaps for ransom purposes– what could then be said for the common man with no access to private security to guard their homes?
Bottom Line:
This incident is a call-to-action for the local governments in the country to set up a strong vigilante force and an even stronger security force so that such incidents like this will be a thing of the past.
