Cristiano Ronaldo has stated that the 2026-27 season may be his last, with the captain wanting to finish having left a “spectacular legacy” following 25 seasons at the elite level of the game.

The 41-year-old confessed in a Vogue Magazine interview shortly after Portugal’s quarter-final departure from the 2026 World Cup, where it was established that, having only a year left to go on his Al-Nassr contract, Ronaldo had begun to look beyond his career.

“This is perhaps the last year of my footballing career, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” Ronaldo stated in the article.

He enjoyed 25 illustrious seasons at clubs such as Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Al-Nassr, and enjoyed a fantastic career, becoming one of the greatest players of all time, also becoming Portugal’s most notable figure. Ronaldo says the lack of football may leave a hole in his life and wants to do more travelling, playing padel and “life outside of football.”

“Since the gap from football may leave one with a lot of room, it’s time to fill that space with other things.” he explained.

His departure from football would come after he reached six World Cup campaigns, where Portugal was knocked out in the quarter-finals after a 1-0 loss to final World Cup victors Spain. Speaking after the game, Jorge Jesus claimed that Ronaldo was still there to represent his nation if available.

But for now, the striker turns his attention to his Al-Nassr responsibilities; however, his interview has now raised speculation over when exactly his esteemed career will come to an end.
