Dalai Lama issued an apology on Monday following a reaction on social media in response to a video in which he was seen instructing a kid to suck his tongue.
Dalai Lama, 87, is seen in the viral video kissing the kid on the lips as he leans in to show reverence.
The toddler was then requested to suck the Buddhist monk’s tongue, which was then seen jutting out. In the footage, he can be heard asking the young child, “Can you suck my tongue.”
His Holiness apologizes to the youngster and his family as well as all of his friends throughout the world for any harm his comments may have caused, according to a statement on his verified Twitter account.
It was also mentioned that His Holiness frequently teases new acquaintances in a harmless and lighthearted manner, even in front of cameras, and that He regrets the occurrence.
The event was filmed on February 28 at McLeod Ganj, a neighborhood of the northern Indian city of Dharamshala.
As the video went viral on Sunday, Twitter users blasted it, calling it “totally sick” and “disgusting.”
