Aliko Dangote, President of the Aliko Dangote Group of Companies, has donated N1.5 billion for the relief of victims affected by the recent floods in Maiduguri, Borno State. This donation aims to provide solace to those who suffered from these catastrophic floods.

During an assessment visit to affected areas, such as the Lagos Street Bridge, Dangote announced that N1 billion would be channeled through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to work with the Borno State government. On top of that, the Dangote Aliko Foundation would contribute an additional N500 million, making a total of N1.5 billion.

In another development, the Federal Government has said it intends to upgrade the Alau Dam as part of measures to prevent future overflow disasters from occurring there again. The dam, which has a capacity level of up to 112 million cubic meters, was recently inundated, causing what some residents described as an unprecedented flood that devastated Maiduguri and its nearby suburbs.

Joseph Utsev, Minister for Water Resources and Sanitation, led on-site inspections accompanied by a visitation from Bello Goronyo, Minister of State, and management staff from the Ministry concerned in monitoring floods in Maiduguri.
