Computer Science has placed first as the most sought-after educational course among undergraduate and post-graduate students in Nigerian Higher Institutions. According to Statisense -a data consulting firm quoting the National Universities Commission -NUC, the data disclosed that the course was highly pursued both as a full-time and part-time course.

This current report was conducted in 2019 revealing that 99,000 students enrolled in Computer Science. Accounting and Business Administration tied with about 92,000 students each enrolling for the courses, while Political Science had 77,000 and Law had 69,000 respectively.

Furthermore, it showed that the top five male most applied doctorate educational courses were Political Science with 805 applicants, Accounting with 734 applicants, Business Administration with 692 applicants, Economics with 688 applicants, and Law with 639 applicants.

Among the female most applied Ph.D. programs, Law, Agriculture, Education Management, Business Administration, and Political Science made the top five.

For undergraduates, however, the most applied course was Computer Science with 52,000 applicants. Entrepreneurship, Political Science, Accounting, and Nursing placed second, third, fourth, and fifth with 49,000, 38,000, 38,000, and 31,000 applicants respectively.

Statisense reported that in 2019, Federal and state’ universities enrolled 96% of the total new entrants into Nigerian universities. Meanwhile, more than 2 million Nigerian students across the federal and state universities have been temporarily out of school for almost 5 months due to an unresolved agreement between the Academic Staff Union of Universities -ASUU and the Federal Government.
