The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has ordered all Senior officers above the Nigerian Defence Academy Regular Course 39, to proceed to volitional retirement.
This development is coming after the recent appointment of the new service chiefs by President Bola Tinubu.
The resignation notice was announced via a statement from the Defence Headquarters signed on Monday by Major General Y. Yayaha for the Chief of Defence Staff.
The statement reads in part:
“The affected officers are to tender their applications to their respective service headquarters no later than on Monday, July 3, 2023.”
In military fashion, senior officers are not likely to take orders from their juniors, hence the compulsory retirement of about 100 top officers (Generals, Brigadiers-General, Air Vice Marshals, Admirals, Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force from Force) to make way for the new appointments.
Officers above the NDA regular course 39 are expected to tender their resignation letter before the due date. The new Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Musa is however, a member of 38 regular courses, But the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, and Hassan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff and Air Vice Marshal, are members of 39 regular course.
