The Delta State government, through its Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, has cautioned motorists in Warri, warning that all unapproved motor parks would be closed down by January 2024, in a bid to reinstate the beauty of the oil city.
Prince Godwin Ejinyere, the Director-General of WUEDA, confirmed this in Effurun on Christmas Day, after an inspection of the city to spot some areas notorious for chaotic vehicular traffic.
The areas highlighted for their notorious traffic logjam in the city include: Jakpa, Airport, and Enerhen junctions, Udu Road to express junction in Ovwian, Effurun roundabout, Tankers’ Park and express junction by Refinery Bridge, and Ugbuwangue junction along NPA expressway.
Other roads were: PTI junction, DSC roundabout, Ugbomro, Otokutu and Mofor junctions along the DSC expressway, Okumagba Estate, Okere Market, Warri Main Market and Igbudu Market by Hausa quarters; DDPA, Ugborikoko, and Edjeba junctions along Airport Road; and Ekpan roundabout in Ekpan.
The WUEDA Director General said these areas have remained notorious for indiscriminate parking and boarding of vehicles, especially tricycles aka Keke Napep along the roads and at road junctions in the name of motor parks. To this, he stressed that they would be shut down to give the city a facelift in the incoming year.
Hon. Ejinyere had additionally warned that broken down vehicles left on the streets and roads will be confiscated by the appropriate government agencies who would work hand in hand with WUEDA, to bring sanity to the city.
Lastly, such automobiles would be made to face sanctions through the help of a task force and a mobile court.
