The Delta State Government claims to have paid more than N130 billion out of N465 billion to lower the state’s debt.
Mr Felix Ofu, the Delta State governor’s Executive Assistant (New Media), made the announcement on Tuesday while interacting with journalists in Asaba, the state capital.
He stated, “This administration inherited N465 billion, and as of March 2024, Sheriff Oborevwori’s government had been able to pay over N130 billion to reduce the state’s debt profile.” “Sheriff Oborevwori’s government understands that any debt accumulated will not only burden the people, but also our unborn children.
“Previously, surplus was wasted, but the Oborevwori-led administration has conserved more than N205 billion in surplus through smart management. It has never occurred since the inception of Delta State.
“In all of this, the Oborevwori-led government has not borrowed any money since taking office on May 29, 2023.” So, when people wonder what he is doing with the large sums of money flowing into the state, it perplexes me.”Ofu claimed that the administration had accomplished a number of initiatives in the state with the money accruing to it, and that Oborevwori cannot be accused of mismanagement of finances.
In addition, the governor’s Executive Assistant (Media), Mr Nobert Chiazor, hailed Julius Beger’s N78 billion contract as historic in Delta State history.
He claimed that the contract is currently transforming the appearance of the Warri axis, and that Oborevwori runs an open and transparent government.
In Essence
The reference to the N78 billion contract with Julius Berger and its impact on the Warri axis points to an investment in infrastructure, which can drive economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents.
While the government claims to be managing funds effectively, it’s important to remain vigilant about transparency and accountability.
Public scrutiny and oversight can help ensure that these claims are accurate and that the administration continues to act in the best interests of the people.
