Following the recent Edo election results, Philip Shuaibu, the deputy governor of Edo State, expressed his joy over the outcome, stating that he feels vindicated.
Shuaibu shared his happiness during an appearance on Arise Television on Monday, expressing satisfaction with the victory of APC candidate Monday Okpebholo.
He has had a strained relationship with Governor Obaseki, who has attempted to remove him from office multiple times without success. The results of the Edo election are likely to bring him some relief, especially as he has been one of Obaseki’s adversaries during the governor’s final term.
“I feel vindicated and I thank God for it. I am water; I don’t have enemies. Unfortunately, those who see themselves as enemies, I have always prayed for them to live long and witness how God’s miracle continues to unfold in my life,” Shuaibu stated.
Commenting on the election, he emphasized that he is a team player dedicated to fulfilling his responsibilities.
“I am a team player, I am somebody who likes to do my work the way it should be and if I make mistake, it is a human mistake not out of envy or wickedness. Yesterday, I was so excited and happy that I was counted among the numbers that have helped APC take power in Edo state”
Shuaibu also criticized the outgoing governor for failing to win his local government, claiming he had previously supported the governor. He suggested that Obaseki’s inability to secure the seat for his candidate stemmed from having offended the people of Edo. Shuaibu advised the outgoing governor to “go back and start begging and apologizing to the people of Edo.”
