Vietnamese authorities have apprehended Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Do Thang Hai, on allegations of bribery. This e as disclosed by the country’s security ministry on Thursday.
The arrest is linked to an investigation into suspected misconduct at an oil trading company in southern Vietnam, as stated by the police-operated Ministry of Public Security.
This development occurs within the context of an ongoing anti-corruption initiative in communist Vietnam, leading to the scrutiny of hundreds of officials, with many being compelled to resign, including former president Nguyen Xuan Phuc and two deputy prime ministers.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has not yet responded to Reuters’ request for comment on the matter.
In tandem with Hai’s arrest, authorities conducted searches at both his residence and office, according to reports from the state-run Tuoi Tre newspaper, citing information from the police.
