Double-Layered Jeans: Fashion Faux Pas or Next Big Trend?

Double-Layered Jeans: Fashion Faux Pas or Next Big Trend?

One of my favorite things about fashion is that it is always challenging conventional norms, embracing new trends, innovating, and helping to express creativity among designers, both upcoming and well-known.

I’ve been seeing this trend of wearing double-waisted trousers, and it got me wondering: Is there any sense to it, or is everyone doing it just for the trend?

The look recently made a comeback on the fashion scene, but it originally debuted in 2013 when Rihanna partnered with River Island to showcase this trend-setting look.

Brands and designers like ASOS, Maison Margiela, R13, SANDRO, Alexander Wang, Tortoise, Natasha Zinko, and of course, River Island have been at the forefront of spearheading this look.

What Is the Layered Denim About?

The layered denim look involves wearing jeans that appear to have one or several other pairs layered underneath them.

This look is highly customizable and comes in various styles. In some designs, two pairs of jeans are sewn together to achieve that layered look, while in others, there’s a ‘double waistband’ effect where one pair of jeans appears to be tucked neatly into another.
Some of these jeans don’t come cheap.

For instance, Natasha Zinko’s design costs about £544, while ASOS offers a cheaper option for those looking to get into this style, with one of their designs priced at £48 link.

If you’re looking to hop on this fledgling trend, here are a few suggestions for you:

Edgy, Streetwear Vibe:

I’d suggest you do what former Big Brother Naija housemate, Modella, did when she tried her hands at it. She wore baggy Levi’s jeans on top of a more fitted pair by the same brand. She finished the look with a black crop top and matching heels, accessorizing with a bag of the same color.

Cool, Trendy Vibe:

If you’re feeling bold, follow Kylie Jenner’s route by opting for layered denim trousers, a knitted crop-top, and a tiny Jacquemus bag of a similar color. Although the beauty mogul debuted this look in 2020, the fit is still fashion forward and looks timeless.

I’m a bit biased in my opinion but Kylie Jenner wore hers better. Modella tried, but the double jeans stuff won’t work out in Nigeria because of the hot climate

Funnily enough I saw when Modella tried on this look on Twitter and she got dragged over it.
You can’t deny that she is creative though
