Paulo Dybala has sensationally admitted to considering an enormous offer from Saudi Pro League before choosing to remain with AS Roma. The World Cup winner had been close to making the move to Al-Qadsiah, which was reported to have offered a three-year contract worth an eye-watering €75 million. However, Dybala chose loyalty to Roma over the financial incentives.
Speaking to Sky Italia, Dybala explained his decision: “Everyone looks at the money, but I put many things on the plate to come to my decision: my family, my wife, the city, the team, and my desire to return to the national team.”
Dybala insisted, though, that even seduced, his mind was on being fit and accomplishing professional milestones.
“I’m 30 and feel good. I’ve seen a lot of criticism about the injuries, but I try to work hard every day to take care of me and perform the best I can,” he added.
Dybala only joined Roma from Juventus last year and has since become a fan favorite—a key player for the club. The previous campaign saw him amass 16 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions, leading the club in assists (10), chances created (61), and big chances created (15). The only player above him at the club’s score chart was Romelu Lukaku, with 21 goals.
Although Dybala confessed that the huge financial offer had lured him to put pen on paper, he was more concerned about his happiness, overall well-being, and the seamless continuation of his career.
“Surely when you see that kind of figure… can’t say that I didn’t think about it, but I weighed a few aspects,” he explained. He also rubbished the rumors that money was top of the agenda for his agent and instead said his well-being was his agent’s main concern.
Dybala stays loyal to Roma, and he still remains a key player in Serie A.
