A fire outbreak from a fallen tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) has destroyed many vehicles in the Ibafo area of the Obafemi Owode local government area of the state, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident had occurred in the wee hours of the morning, when driver of the tanker –suspected to have fallen asleep at the wheel– lost control of the vehicle, causing the tanker to fall and eventually explode.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun state-owned Traffic Compliance and Enforcement, Babatunde Akinbiyi, had confirmed the incident in Abeokuta, adding that no life was lost.
The spilt flammable content was said to have resulted in a fire that quickly spread to vehicles parked at a filling station.
It was gathered that the Ogun State Fire Service engine was quickly radioed to put the situation under control, but by the time they arrived, the fire had burnt several vehicles and several individuals had also sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The impact of the explosion from the truck and the resultant fire was evident, with several buildings suffering shattered windows, damaged roofs, and cracked walls.
