According to Goodwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, his administration will invest N6 billion in the state’s secondary schools between May and September of the next year.
He asserted that it is unreasonable to anticipate that his government will resolve the state’s long-standing educational issues in five or eight years.
Obaseki said he wants to leave behind an articulated plan and directional plan on what has to be done and when to execute it in the state education system. He made this statement over the weekend while responding to questions from journalists shortly after the closing ceremony of 2023 Edo School Week.
He asserts that it is physically impossible to reconstruct all of the schools, classrooms, furniture, and textbooks as needed, but he also notes that they have begun to make significant headway and have shown that doing so is not impossible.
According to him, his administration is creating an educational system that will ensure that students in Edo will know certain things by the time they graduate from primary school, exhibit appropriate behavior and dress, and have developed personalities that will set them up for success in life by the time they graduate from JSS III.
