Edo State Government has declared that schools in the state will remain closed indefinitely; the reopening date was initially fixed for September 9, 2024. This is due to the increase in prices of petroleum products and other subsequent problems resulting from it, which is why it was announced.
According to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, public and private schools in Edo State should remain shut until further notice; this is partly to avoid chaos among parents and guardians, who are helpless during this time, while also noting that, under present circumstances, all children within their care would be best placed under monitoring arrangements by various families involved with education.
The measure was taken as a means of safeguarding the students’ as well as parents’ wellbeing due to the tough times being experienced state-wide right now.
