An Edo-based Fulani herdsman and farmer, who lives in Imoga, Akoko-Edo Local Government Region, Hussaini Idris, on Monday, accused members of a vigilante group in his area of harassment and extortion.
Idris claimed he was forced to pay N15,000 to vigilante members before they freed his two nephews who had come to visit him from Oyo State last Saturday.
He claimed that his nephews who traveled from Oyo State to see him last Saturday were illegally arrested on their way back.
They had locked them in the vigilante office before he arrived. To obtain their freedom, he had to pay N15,000.
When contacted, Mr. Alao Ojo, the area’s vigilante commander, confirmed the occurrence and stated he had reported it to his commander, who had then reported it to the police.
He stated that appropriate action will be taken against those involved, promising that certain bad apples in the organization would be removed.
