Lagos-based socialite, Emeka Okonkwo Daniel, better known as E-Money, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following accusations of violating foreign exchange laws.
According to information obtained by PUNCH, E-Money was taken into custody on Monday night at his residence in the Omole area of Lagos.
The arrest stems from allegations that he sprayed U.S. dollars at an event, an act that is said to violate the Foreign Exchange Act.
An EFCC source explained, “E-Money was arrested on Monday night for Naira abuse and for defacing foreign currency. He is specifically accused of spraying U.S. dollars, which contravenes the Foreign Exchange Act. He was apprehended at his home in Omole, Lagos. Investigations are ongoing, and once they are concluded, he will be brought before the court.”
Another source, who spoke to PUNCH, confirmed that E-Money is being transported to Abuja for further questioning. “Yes, he has been arrested and is currently being flown to Abuja for further investigations,” the source said.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale declined to comment when contacted for an official statement on the matter.
