The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), through its Ilorin Zonal Directorate, has arrested 49 individuals suspected of engaging in internet-related fraud in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Monday by the commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale. According to him, the suspects were taken into custody over the weekend—between Saturday and Sunday—following credible intelligence linking them to online fraud.
The Ilorin Zonal Directorate, which oversees anti-corruption operations in Kwara, Kogi, and Ekiti states, coordinated the sting operation across several locations in Lokoja.
Among the items recovered from the suspects were luxury vehicles, laptop computers, and sophisticated smartphones. An unlicensed pistol was also retrieved from one suspect, who reportedly confessed to being a former member of a cult group during initial questioning.
The EFCC confirmed that once investigations are complete, all the suspects will be arraigned in court.
