The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has announced five new directives to electricity distribution companies just after the electricity tariff was hiked.
The directives were contained in a recent notice signed by the Deputy General Manager of Market Competition and Rates, Abba Terab.
This latest news is coming after NERC had on last Tuesday, approved a N225 per kilowatt-hour electricity tariff for Band A electricity customers consuming at least 20 hours of power supply daily.
In this follow-up update, NERC directed all discos to ensure that only the 480 newly approved Band A feeders were being charged the new rate.
It also mandated All DisCos to promptly post the schedule of approved Band A feeders affected by the rate review on their websites.
The Commission emphasised that all DisCos should set up a portal on their website by April 10, 2024, so that customers could login to the website and check their current bands by entering their meter or account numbers.
NERC had also addressed wrongful billing of customers saying that all customers wrongly billed at the new rate should be refunded through energy tokens no later than Thursday, April 11, 2024, and file evidence of compliance with the Commission by April 12, 2024.
Finally, the Commission said it will be monitoring compliance with the above mentioned requirements and will keep supporting all stakeholders as much as was required.
