Enugu State Government Invests N183 Billion In Road Construction and Education

The Enugu State Government has approved a sum of N183 billion for the construction of 141 roads within the Enugu metropolis and 20 rural roads accessible from the three senatorial zones in the state, as well as the award of 133 additional smart schools, bringing the total number of smart schools to 260, with at least one smart school in each of the 260 political wards.

The above approvals were announced at the end of the Exco meeting held in the Council Chamber, Government House, Enugu. The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia briefed journalist on the Exco resolutions regarding the road infrastructures and additional smart schools, in accordance with the vision of Governor Mbah to grow the economy of the state from about $4.4 billion to $30 billion, with zero percent poverty headcount index and place Enugu State as a premier location for Investment, tourism, and business within  four to eight years.

The statement also drew attention to the remarkable growth in capital expenditure from approximately N30 billion (25- 35% of the budget) to over N400 billion (approximately 80% of budget), which shows the current government commitment to infrastructure development and sound financial management.

The newly approved roads, comprising 141 urban roads and 20 rural roads, will help to enhance travel, drive economic growth and increase the quality of life in urban and rural areas.
