Enugu Timber Market Fire Incident: What We Know So Far

On Tuesday, a devastating fire destroyed no less than five shops located in the bustling timber market situated on Kenyatta Street in Uwani, Enugu, according to the latest report from the News Agency of Nigeria. Fortunately, the timely intervention of the state Fire Service effectively doused the flames, preventing its rapid spread to other sections of the plywood market.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, one of the firefighters revealed that the emergency services received a distress call at approximately 9:45 pm alerting them to the large and intense fire engulfing the market. Immediately, the firefighting team went into action, quickly containing and extinguishing the fire before it could inflict further damage on the market premises.

“As you can see, only about five shops were affected by the fire in this big market. I cannot say much on this incident as I am not the Chief Fire Officer,” the fireman said.

Following the nationwide industrial strike suspension by labor unions, an observer named Joe informed journalists that he spotted the fire at the timber market. He mentioned that several neighbors quickly rushed to the scene. Within a short span, the fire service arrived and effectively doused the flames, averting further damage.

”I thank God and the fire service for the quick response, otherwise, it would have been disastrous,” he said.
