Ethiopian Airlines has stated that after Chinese government limitations are lifted, its
flight frequency to Chinese cities will increase by February 6, 2023, and return to the
pre-COVID-19 level by March 1, 2023.
With this new development, Ethiopian Airlines will continue to fly three times per week to Chengdu and conduct daily flights to Guangzhou in addition to extending its weekly flights to Beijing and Shanghai.
Beginning on March 1, there will be daily flights to Beijing and Shanghai as well as 10 and 4 weekly flights to Guangzhou and Chengdu, respectively, bringing the number of flights back to pre-COVID-19 levels. Therefore, when the services are fully restored, Ethiopia will run a total of 28 passenger flights each week to China.
According to Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Group, they are happy to be boosting the frequency of their flights to Chinese cities as a result of the Chinese government
relaxing its aviation regulations. The increase in flight frequency will aid in reviving
trade, investment, cultural exchange, and bilateral cooperation between Africa and
China in the post-COVID era. China is one of Ethiopian Airlines’ largest markets outside of Africa. Due to their extensive network throughout Africa, the expansion of flights to Chinese cities will improve relations between China and Africa.
Ethiopian operates freighter flights to Guangzhou, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Changsha,
and Wuhan in addition to its passenger flights to Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, and
Chengdu.
