Ex-US President Trump Sues CNN for Alleged Defamation

The former President of the United States, Donald Trump, has sued American News Network, CNN, for an alleged defamation, and is seeking $475 million in, according to his words, “punitive damages.”

The lawsuit which was filed in a US District Court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, had Trump accusing CNN of running a “libel and slander” campaign against him, in a bid to derail any future political plans that he may have. The lawsuit had additionally, claimed the news network had “intended to aggravate, scare and trigger people” against Trump.

Meanwhile, Trump’s close associates have reported that the politician had plans to file similar lawsuits against other news organizations in coming weeks and months.

Trump’s lawsuit against the news company is coming as he is being investigated by the US Justice Department for withholding sensitive government documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida after he left office in January 2021.
