The ex-Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode (FFK) has revealed that the military coup that just happened in Gabon had not come as a surprise to him.

Fani-Kayode’s statement came shortly after a coup took place in the Central African country.

According to reports the army officers in Gabon announced a seizure of power after the third term re-election of President Ali Bongo on Saturday, August 26.

The chief army officers made the announcement on Tuesday, August 29.

The officers had reportedly claimed that they were rejecting the outcome of Saturday’s election which the opposition had rejected and described as “fraudulent and deceitful”.

But, Fani-Kayode had shared a post via his social media platform X, (formerly Twitter), revealing that people should expect more coups in the Francophone nations of West and Central Africa.

He had posted:

“Sadly another coup has taken place in Africa and this time, it occurred in the nation of Gabon where President Ali Bongo was been removed from power.

“I am not at all shocked that this has happened and in all sincerity, we should brace up for more coups in the Francophone countries of West and Central Africa.

I am pondering on whether ECOWAS or the African Union will threaten to invade Gabon too?” The post concluded.
