A severe storm system has resulted in widespread flooding, tornados and other storm damage to the southern US.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), major areas across the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama were affected by this storm.
The NWS had revealed that wind gusts of up to 75 mph (120 km/h) were likely in some of the above mentioned areas.
Presently, one fatality has been reported in in Scott County, Mississippi, located north of New Orleans.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency had not given further details about the incident or the cause of death.
Flash flooding was reported in the New Orleans area, where over a month’s worth of rain was recorded in just a few hours. Several suspected tornados have also caused damage across the Gulf Coast region.
Police officials in Slidell, Louisiana, have said that about 10 people were injured and taken to hospital for treatment after the storm passed.
Another tornado had hit the town of Lake Charles, Louisiana, damaging homes but fortunately, there were no reports of injuries.
Right now, parts of southeast Alabama, Florida and Georgia are under tornado warnings.
In southeastern Texas, floods have caused evacuations and prompted highways to be closed. Rescue operations are still ongoing.
