Mohammed Bello, minister of federal capital territory (fct), announced on Thursday at the State House Correspondents that the capital city was now generating over two hundred billion naira yearly.
He said that the capital was able to achieve this through a severe tax campaign in which they inculcated the tax-paying culture in not only individuals but also organizations in the nation’s capital. He said the state aims to supersede Lagos state which is the highest state in revenue generation in Nigeria with a target of over 900 billion naira for 2022.
The minister also said that the government has set aside over one billion naira for the renovation of the National Mosque and National Ecumenical Center. This would be done to make sure that these places in the federal capital are still visitable sites.
The FCT Directorate of the Road Transport Service (DRTS) has also announced that Okada riders would now have to be licensed to operate in the capital city. This is due to the havoc that these motorcycle riders have recently caused in the city. Therefore, only verified motorcycle riders would be allowed to run their services in the FCT.
“The menace arising from many Okada riders is not just about traffic violations but also perpetration of crime. Okada is also used to deliver hard drugs across the city.” He added.
