On Sunday, gunmen attacked the First Baptist Church on Wetheral Road in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, and kidnapped Biola Abeoye, one of the women leaders. The victim is the general manager’s wife at the Nekede location of the Owerri Zoological Garden. The church official, who asked to remain anonymous said that the abductors had driven a Toyota car and they awaited the conclusion of the church service before making their move.

He also added that the kidnappers’ tactics demonstrated that they were after the victim. He said that the attackers fired rounds into the air that shattered the church’s walls before fleeing with their victim.

He stated, “Some group of gun-wielding men operating in a Camry Toyota vehicle came to our church premises and parked. At first, we thought that they were security men, so we didn’t bother. They waited till the church service dismissed before they struck”

He said that before the woman was compelled into their automobile, they had someone in the car who could identify her. “The woman is the wife of the General Manager of Imo Zoological Garden at Nekede. Her husband is out of the state. He traveled. We have reported the incident at the police station.”

Michael Abattam, the state’s police spokesperson, has not yet commented on the incident.
