Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, had on Monday, December 5, ordered the Nigerian Correctional Service to redeploy female prison officers who are unable to shoot to kill.
Aregbesola had given the directive during the unveiling ceremony of the new service logo and uniforms, and the commissioning of new staff quarters, ICT infrastructure, and operational vehicles at the Service headquarters.
25 personnel who showed courage in repelling bandits’ attack on a custodial facility in Niger State were rewarded by the minister at the ceremony.
Aregbesola had been dismayed at those who had run in the face of adversity and had said so.
“Rifles are not for play; they’re meant to kill criminals. Any officer that is unable to shoot to kill should be trained or replaced.” He had said.
“People to be stationed in maximum and medium custodial centers have to be tough”.
He then went on to reveal that most of the hoodlums wreaking havoc in the South East were some of the escapees from the custodial centers in Imo State.
Aregbesola then concluded his statement by saying that going forward, anyone who tried to attack any custodial center should pay the ultimate price.
