The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that a container truck fatally struck a female biker in the Sifax inward Iganmu Bridge area on Monday.
Reports indicate that the truck driver lost control, causing the vehicle to topple onto the female biker while descending the bridge.
Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, disclosed this incident on the authority’s official X handle. The statement detailed that emergency responders, including LASTMA operatives, recovered the body of the female biker trapped under the loaded container truck early in the morning.
Initial investigations revealed that the speeding truck driver lost control, causing the truck to fall on the female biker. The driver fled the scene after the accident occurred.
Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, confirmed the incident happened around 6:15 am. LASTMA personnel called in other emergency responders, including the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU), for the rescue operation. The Lagos State Ambulance Service later transported the deceased’s body, and the container truck was cleared to ensure free movement on Iganmu Bridge.
Police officers were deployed to maintain security during the rescue operation. The governor’s aide expressed condolences to the victim’s family and emphasized that truck drivers must adhere to speed limits. He also urged motorcycle operators to comply with traffic rules and regulations as outlined in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
