It was a game full of incidents and heavy rain but Manchester United managed to bag a 2-1 win that takes them to 13 Premier League home games without defeat against Chelsea.
The Blues were already in a dire situation when goalkeeper Robert Sánchez got his marching orders for a foul on Bryan Mbeumo.
However, five minutes later, Bruno Fernandes timing perfectly helped Patrick Dorgu to score with a header which hit the post and then the net for his 100th goal with the club.
The visitors then conceded a second goal as Casemiro fired in a header from close range after a scanted corner routine and put the game beyond Chelsea before the interval. But the Brazilian’s night turned into a disaster when he was shown two yellows resulting in his exit and bringing the two teams back to 10 players.
The conditions were terrible and second half proceeded in a slow and disorderly way but Chelsea still tried to respond. Their efforts were rewarded in the 80th minute as Trevoh Chalobah outjumped his marker and powered home Reece James’ cross to give the fans some hope. However, the Reds were not shaken as Manuel Ugarte and Altay Bayındır intervened at critical moments and thwarted Chelsea’s attempts to make the score 2-2.
By winning this game, Manchester United got the green light to celebrate their second win out of three games. On the other hand, the Blues are now without a win in their last three matches.
