Fewer than 210 former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will receive the President’s NYSC Honours Award for their selfless service between 2020 and 2023. The prestigious award will be presented on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

This was revealed by the Director of Press and Public Relations of NYSC, Mr Emeka Mgbemena, in a statement made available in Abuja on Saturday.

Corps Members Recognised for Meritorious Service

According to Mr Mgbemena, the President’s NYSC Honours Award will be given to 200 ex-corps members who excelled during their national service. These individuals stood out in the NYSC’s four key programmes — Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service, and Winding-Up/Passing-Out.

“These outstanding corps members were selected based on their exceptional performance in every aspect of the service year,” Mgbemena stated.

Apart from the 200 recipients, 10 additional ex-corps members will be honoured under the NYSC Hope Alive Initiative. These individuals suffered permanent disabilities while serving Nigeria.

“They are being recognised for their sacrifice and bravery during their service to the nation,” Mgbemena added.

Event to Hold at the Presidential Villa

The President’s NYSC Honours Award ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, with top government officials in attendance. The event is expected to draw attention to the hard work, courage, and resilience of Nigerian youths across the country.

The Minister of Youth Development, Mr Ayodele Olawande, and the Director-General of NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, are among those expected to attend, along with NYSC management and special guests.

Bottom Line

The upcoming President’s NYSC Honours Award is more than just a ceremony—it is a moment to celebrate patriotism, resilience, and excellence. As fewer than 210 former corps members are set to receive the nation’s highest recognition for youth service, Nigerians are reminded of the value and importance of national unity and selfless contribution.
