Subject to last-minute changes, the Federal Physician Salary Template drafted for the College Teachers Union will be adopted.
The decision to adopt ASUU’s salary profile follows, among other things, numerous requests from physicians for higher salaries.
The doctors are currently conducting a warning strike organized by the Nigeria Resident Physicians Association, a subsidiary of the Nigerian Medical Association.
The warning strike, which started last Wednesday, is due to end today.
In 2022, the FG had proposed a 23.5% salary increase for non-executive lecturers and a 35% salary increase for junior and law professors. The ASUU has yet to accept the proposal or formally comment on the percentage, but the union has repeatedly clashed with the federal government over an overhaul of its salary structure.
But in a memorandum of understanding signed between FG and NMA and its affiliates such as NARD, the eighth point focused on revising salaries.
