As a result of Colonialism, most Nigerians have lost their culture, and that includes our mother tongue, most children of this generation cannot speak their mother tongue except only English. The federal government has approved a new language policy, which makes the Mother tongue a Compulsory medium of instruction for pry 1-6.
This was revealed by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, during this week’s Federal executive council meeting, which was chaired by the president of the federal republic of Nigeria, General Mohammadu Buhari in Aso rock.
The minister disclosed that it will be taught consecutively for six years, and then it’ll be added to the English language in Jss1.
According to him, the federal government will make all necessary equipment available and will also make sure to employ qualified teachers for the program.
The minister also explained that the reason for introducing this initiative was to prevent our languages from going into extinction because every single language is special.
