An inferno has gutted a part of the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos State, earlier this morning, September 6.

The unfortunate incident affected the primary gateway section of the airport, leading to the stoppage of some airport operations.

Reports had gathered that firefighters had been quickly dispatched, to contain the fire, while passengers and airport personnel were evacuated safely from the building in question.

Mr Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, the Director Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the Federal Airport Authority, had confirmed the incident via a statement.

The director had said that the immediate response and professional efforts of the firefighters from the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services–ARFFS, of the airport had really helped to curb the fire and bring the situation under control.

The statement had partly read:

“We are pleased to inform esteemed customers that the situation (at the airport) is presently under control.”

“FAAN is ever committed to her core values of ensuring safety, security and comfort.” The statement concluded.
