A fire broke out in a section of a three-story building located at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off Wempco Road in the Ogba area of Lagos State. Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday.
According to Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA received distress calls through the 767 and 112 toll-free emergency lines at approximately 2:39 am. The agency quickly mobilized its response team from the Alausa command and control center.
“Upon immediate response, it was confirmed that one of the two bedrooms in Flat 5 of Block 21, a two-winged, three-story building comprising 16 two-bedroom flats, was engulfed in flames,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
Fire Details
Investigations by LASEMA’s response team revealed that the fire originated in the children’s room due to a power surge. But, thanks to the prompt and coordinated efforts of LASEMA, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire was successfully contained.
Fortunately, no injuries or loss of life were reported. However, the fire completely destroyed the children’s bedroom, resulting in the loss of properties valued at millions of naira.
Safety Advisory
In the aftermath of the incident, LASEMA provided safety education to the occupants, emphasizing the proper use of electrical appliances.
