A four-story building in the popular Balogun market in Lagos had gone up in flames in the early hours of Thursday, 26 January 2023, destroying goods worth several millions of naira in the process.
The exact cause of the fire had not been pinpointed at the time of filing this news but according to reports, the inferno began from one of the textile shops and shoe building located on Gbajumo, at around midnight today.
Firemen from the Federal and State Services had arrived at the scene and had reportedly battled with the inferno for three hours before it was put out.
While dampening was going on, the fire began again by 6 am, and at about 9.40 am, emergency responders had still been tending to it.
Meanwhile, while confirming the fire outbreak, the South West Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA Ibrahim Farinloye remarked that there had been no record of loss of life.
He said, “ Presently, the fire has been brought under total control. It has been contained without spreading to other buildings.”
