Environment Canada had issued rainfall warnings for the Greater Toronto Area and much of southern Ontario due to heavy rain and thunderstorms. Following this, Drake posted a video on Instagram showing part of his Toronto home submerged in floodwaters, joking that the murky water “better be espresso martini.”
The storm’s impact on Canada’s largest city was severe, causing power outages and stranding motorists. Toronto police reported closures on parts of the Don Valley Parkway and Lakeshore Boulevard due to flooding. The downtown core was also affected, with flooding at Union Station, a key transit hub.
Billy Bishop Airport, located on the Toronto Islands near downtown, closed its pedestrian tunnel because of flooding. In Peel Region, west of Toronto, police warned residents to drive cautiously as manhole covers were being lifted by the volume of rain.
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority issued a flood warning, advising that shorelines, rivers, and streams in the Greater Toronto Area were dangerous.
