Head coach Eric Chelle has successfully convinced a former England youth international to switch his international allegiance. The left-back, who was born in England, is believed to have held discussions with the coach and his representatives since last season while working to convince him to switch his allegiance to Nigeria.
The player had requested more time before confirming his switch to Nigeria but was expected to begin the process in the summer before postponing the decision after sorting out his future at club level, and he has only recently sealed a move to a different top-flight team.
Own Goal Nigeria reported that the player has sent the necessary documents to world football’s governing body, FIFA, as he pushes to make the switch to Nigeria.
He has also submitted an application for a Nigerian passport and hopes to receive the green light before the end of this year. His identity remains a secret, but sources close to Chelle are said to be eager to protect existing relationships by revealing little.
The defender is understood to have been capped for England at youth level but has now decided to pursue his senior international career with Nigeria, following in the footsteps of Arthur Okonkwo, Femi Azeez, Emmanuel Fernandez, Chibuzo Nwoko and Owen Oseni.
