Mr. Remi Omowaye, the immediate past Commissioner for Works in Osun State, has urged Nigerians to rally behind Ekiti-born chef, Damilola Adeparusi, as she aims to set a new world record for the longest cooking time.
In a statement released in Osogbo on Sunday, Omowaye emphasized the need to encourage Adeparusi in pursuing her dream, rather than subjecting her to unwarranted criticism for her attempt to break a record previously held by another Nigerian. To show his support, he announced a donation of N100,000 to the chef and commended her for showcasing lesser-known traditional cuisines from Ekiti State.
The statement further conveyed, “I wholeheartedly support Miss Damilola Adeparusi, the Ekiti-born chef, in her quest to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon. Records are meant to be surpassed. Damilola has done nothing wrong by aiming to surpass Hilda’s record. The sky is vast enough to accommodate various talents. Let her spread her wings and soar. I believe she is also seeking to make a name for herself. Healthy competition is beneficial.”
“While it is essential to acknowledge the chef’s endeavour, I must express concern about the lack of adequate planning for the event. There should have been arrangements for medical personnel on standby in case of emergencies. Nevertheless, I applaud her for showcasing traditional Ekiti cuisine.”
Omowaye also advised the chef to prepare a diverse range of traditional Ekiti meals, including Feregede, Otili, Pakala, Usu Eura, Usu Olo, Ewa Alagbado, Eusaa, and Egbo,
