Former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation Chief Pius Anyim Pius officially joined the ruling All Progressive Congress APC yesterday, leaving the People Democratic party.

Architect Edward Nwkegu, a prominent member of the Labour Party in Ebonyi State, is among those who defected to the APC.

They declared their defection at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki during an APC mega event in the state.

Senators Anyim Pius Anyim and Edward Nwkegu, speaking on behalf of the PDP and Labour Party, urged all Ebonyians to continue to support President Bola Ahamed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

What they’re saying

“Today is a great day in Ebonyi State government.Today, we’re back together. It’s very sad, but it’s not about me, but about the people of Ebonyi State. We consulted and made decisions prior to this defection.

“We urge all Ebonyi people to support Mr. President as he leads the country through these tough times. “The people of Ebonyi have resolved to assist the government of Mr. President and Minister of Works in its efforts to strengthen Bola Tinubu’s administration.”We urge all Nigerians to rally behind Mr. President,” Anyim stated.

Bottom Line

Anyim’s departure from the PDP, along with Architect Edward Nwkegu’s defection from the Labour Party, represents a loss for these opposition parties. This could weaken their influence and support base in Ebonyi State, potentially affecting their performance in future elections.
