A former Vice-chancellor of the University of Benin has been confirmed dead on Sunday. Emeritus Professor Osayuki Godwin Oshodin, who was a Vice-Chancellor of the University from 2009 and 2014 and also a professor of Health Education at the University has been confirmed dead in a statement signed by his brother, Mr. Christopher Oshodin.
He said that the professor had died after a short illness in the early hours of Sunday the 29th of May, 2022. He died in Benin City, Edo State, and has lived up to 71 years on earth.
The family said that they would be mourning and grieving his death and would be releasing the details of his burial arrangement soon
Before he became the Vice-Chancellor in 2009, he was a director of sports, dean of the faculty of education, and also Dean of the student affairs at the University of Benin
He has published more than seventy-eight academic publications, and six books and co-authored twenty-seven other books.
His tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin ended in the year 2014 and he was succeeded by Professor Osasere Orumwense.
