The Federal Government has declared its intention to launch Nigeria’s first astronaut into space.

This was revealed on Wednesday during a briefing in Abuja by Dr. Matthew Adepoju, the director general of the National Space Research and Development Agency.

To support this audacious endeavour, the Federal Government and the Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The director general said:
“This collaboration, which is coming to the country, marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s 25th anniversary of Space Exploration journey and opens new opportunities for scientific research and technological advancement.”

In Essence

A Nigerian civilian in space would be a huge inspiration for many, particularly young people. It could spark interest in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and lead to a more skilled workforce in the future.

This project would likely require significant investment in research and development, which could lead to advancements in various technological fields beyond space travel.
