Veganism isn’t the only popular diet option. The “fruitarian diet“ is another popular diet trend. The Fruitarian diet is a form of vegan diet in which people primarily eat fresh fruits. They occasionally eat nuts and seeds to round out their nutrition.

More individuals are becoming interested in this diet because they believe it is both healthy and natural. However, there are still some concerns regarding its long-term health benefits and if it offers all of the nutrients the body needs.

The Fruitarian Diet

As previously said, the primary premise of this diet is to focus on raw fruits while also including vegetables, nuts, and seeds. There are two types of people who follow a fruit-based diet. The first group of people are known as the strict Fruitarians. They only eat ripe fruits that have naturally fallen off the plant. They do this because they believe it is the most natural and ethical way to eat without causing harm to plants.

The other group of people are known as inclusive Fruitarians. These people have more flexibility since they eat a wider variety of fruits as well as vegetables, nuts, and seeds. Inclusive fruitarians do this to ensure that they get all of the nutrients they need and to maintain a more balanced diet.

Potential Benefits of a Fruitarian Diet

This diet has a handful of benefits, the first of which is increased daily fiber intake. Fruits have a high fiber content. Fiber can be found in the peel, pulp, and seeds of fruits, and because Fruitarianism focuses on eating fruits in their complete, raw state, you can consume all of the fruit’s fiber-containing components.

Second, following a fruitarian diet increases the likelihood of weight loss. Fruits are often lower in calories than whole foods. Plus, fruits are very high in water content. Fruit can help with digestion due to its high fiber and water content. Third, you’ll get plenty of essential vitamins and minerals, such as potassium and folate, which help your body stay healthy.

Possible Concerns

1. Nutrient deficiencies: The diet’s focus on fruits, nuts, and seeds may not provide sufficient protein, calcium, and iron for muscles, bones, and oxygen transport.

2. Getting enough calories: Fruits are typically low in calories compared to grains and proteins, making it challenging to maintain energy levels throughout the day.

3. Blood sugar worries: Fruits have natural sugars that can make your blood sugar go up quickly, especially if you eat a lot at once. This can be a concern if you have diabetes or are trying to watch your blood sugar levels.

Bottom Line

The Fruitarian diet emphasizes on eating lots of fruits, along with some vegetables, nuts, and seeds. It’s all about increasing fiber and essential minerals like potassium and folate.

However, it may be difficult because you risk missing out on protein, calcium, and iron, all of which are necessary for body and muscle growth. Also, it’s challenging to consume adequate calories and manage sugar levels in your blood.
