A dispute began between residents and staff members of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, —AEDC on Thursday afternoon in a neighborhood in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
The AEDC officials had allegedly arrived to disconnect customers from the public power supply due to unpaid debts but the residents,l who had long been expressing their concerns over what they tagged an “outrageous billing without commensurate electricity supply,” had foiled the disconnection attempt.
A yet-to-be-identified AEDC staff member, who persevered in carrying out the disconnection, had met resistance and was heavily beaten by aggrieved customers.
The unprecedented incident occurred near the residence of millionaire businessman and trader, Alhaji Turakin Gamj.
