Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, made his first public appearance on Sunday since returning from a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom. He attended the 2025 Thanksgiving Service of the Boys Brigade Metropolitan Battalion Council Nigeria, held at St. Cyprian’s Church, Anglican Communion, Port Harcourt.
The event, which was presided over by the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Oko-Jaja, celebrated the conclusion of the religious camp activities of the Boys Brigade. According to a statement by the governor’s media aide, Nelson Chukwudi, the special service was organised to thank God for the successful gathering of the youth body.
Prayers Offered for Fubara and Rivers State
During the service, a special prayer was offered for Fubara, his family, and the peace of Rivers State. The governor was accompanied by Amaopusenibo Fubara Hart and Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja, showing a united front despite the political tensions rocking the state.
Wike Accuses Fubara Amid Tensions in Rivers
Fubara’s return comes just as his former political ally and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accused him of sponsoring disruptions at a women empowerment programme hosted by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in Port Harcourt. Wike’s statement has sparked concerns that the peace efforts between him and the governor may have hit another deadlock.
The power tussle between Wike and Fubara continues to cast a shadow over governance in Rivers State, even as religious institutions like the Anglican Church strive to promote peace and unity among political stakeholders.
