Amid rising rumors of fuel scarcity, concerns have spread among Nigerians as marketers reportedly queue to buy fuel from the Dangote refinery, only to face days of delay without delivery. This situation has sparked fears of an impending fuel shortage. However, the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) has responded to these speculations, reassuring Nigerians that there is no cause for alarm.

MEMAN’s Assurance on Fuel Availability

In a recent statement, MEMAN Executive Secretary Clement Isong addressed the public, confirming that there is a “significant stock of products” in MEMAN members’ tanks. He noted that there are no issues with accessing this stock, dispelling concerns about immediate or near-term supply disruptions.

Benefits of Diversified Supply and Deregulation

According to Isong, the current framework, which emphasizes diversification and deregulation, enables marketers to plan and book supplies in advance. This structure allows marketers to make adjustments and secure alternative arrangements as needed, helping to prevent product outages. MEMAN remains confident that Nigeria will experience continuous fuel availability due to these measures.

Call to Avoid Panic Buying

MEMAN also urged Nigerians not to engage in panic buying, emphasizing that their supply efficiency is improving with ongoing logistics optimizations. The statement added that MEMAN members are actively working to enhance supply chain efficiency and cost-effectiveness, aiming to provide affordable, accessible, and consistently available fuel for consumers within Nigeria’s competitive market.

“We urge the public not to panic-buy petroleum products, as our supply efficiency continues to improve, and logistics optimization begins to set in,” Isong said. “MEMAN members shall continue to do all within their power to ensure the highest level of availability, accessibility, and affordability for their customers.”

Caution Against Rumors and Black Market Purchases

Finally, MEMAN cautioned the public against spreading unverified rumors about fuel scarcity and warned against purchasing fuel from the black market. According to MEMAN, such actions only contribute to market instability and could lead to unnecessary price increases.

In summary, Nigerians are encouraged to trust in the measures set by MEMAN and avoid panic buying. With MEMAN’s commitment to optimizing fuel availability, the association assures the public that there is no immediate risk of scarcity.
