The Group of Seven (G7) countries have once again shown their strong support for Ukraine as the Russian invasion nears its 1,000th day. In a statement released on Saturday, the leaders promised to keep making things difficult for Russia and to continue helping Ukraine fight for its independence, freedom, and to protect its land.
The G7 leaders also said they will keep using sanctions, export controls, and other actions against Russia. They made it clear they stand with Ukraine as it tries to defend its land and rebuild after the war caused a lot of damage.
The statement emphasized the worldwide impact of Russia’s actions, especially the disruption of grain exports from Ukraine and Russia, which has worsened global food shortages.
The leaders recognized the significant hardship faced by the Ukrainian people and praised their strength and resolve.
The statement ended with a firm message: “Russia is the only thing standing in the way of a fair and lasting peace. We fully support Ukraine.”
The G7 consists of the United States, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Italy is currently leading the group as the rotating president.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a radio interview on Saturday, urged stronger efforts to end the war through diplomacy by next year.
Zelenskyy’s remarks come after he said on Friday that the conflict could end faster if Donald Trump, the U.S. president-elect, fulfills his campaign promise to quickly resolve the war. However, Trump has not provided details on how he plans to achieve this.
