The Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje has granted pardons to at least 4,000 inmates in the last eight years, according to the Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Malam Hassan Fagge on Friday, April 21 in Kano.
This was as Ganduje had pardoned 43 inmates at the Goron Dutse custodial facility to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
In a statement given by his deputy, Alhaji Nasiru Gawuna, Ganduje had remarked that his government had, within eight years, spent close to 5 million naira to settle fines and broke compensations for the inmates.
Meanwhile, Mr. Suleiman Inuwa, the Controller of the correctional service in the State has applauded the gesture saying that it would assist in decongesting the facilities.
